How J-Law took vigorous cleaning to a whole new level in American Hustle

We have looked at some pretty unusual approaches to cleaning here on the Aurora blog over the past few months, from Freddie Mercury's flamboyant housework in the video for 'I Want to Break Free', to the magical mopping featured in Disney's Fantasia.

This week, we take a look at how one of Hollywood's biggest stars made a huge impact with little more than a vacuum cleaner, a cloth and a pair of rubber gloves.

Hate-fuelled housework
One of the key ingredients that made the 2013 movie American Hustle such a success was its star-studded cast, which included Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Robert De Niro.

The film also featured Jennifer Lawrence in the role of Rosalyn Rosenfeld, the wife of Bale's Irving Rosenfeld, a con artist. Rosalyn is an unstable character, to say the least, unfulfilled and frustrated with life. She resents her husband but also tells him that she will report him to the police if he leaves her.

In one particularly memorable scene, which perfectly encapsulates Rosalyn's anger and emotional volatility, she angrily cleans her house while lip syncing and maniacally dancing to the Wings song 'Live and Let Die'.

As this extended version of the scene shows, the routine begins with Rosalyn robotically moving the vacuum cleaner back and forth, an absent look in her eyes. She then begins to lip sync to the music, gradually getting more animated and aggressive as Paul McCartney sings the lyrics that give the song its title.

Rosalyn really gets into it as the heavy guitars kicks in, jerking her shoulders up and down, vigorously polishing surfaces and strutting around the house while flailing her hair back and forth. The performance gets more and more crazed as it goes on, escalating to the point where she crawls across the carpet on all fours before standing up and repeatedly thrusting her arms into the air.

All the while, Rosalyn's young son looks on, slightly bemused at his mother's behaviour.

Lots of love for J-Law

It was unique and memorable moments such as this that helped to make American Hustle a big success, particularly with critics and awards bodies.

The film was nominated for a total of ten Oscars at the 86th Academy Awards, shortlisted in categories including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Lawrence's explosive turn earned her a nomination for the Best Supporting Actress prize, although she lost out to a worthy winner in Lupita Nyong'o for her performance in 12 Years a Slave.

At the UK's BAFTA Awards, however, Lawrence took home the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. She also topped her category at the Golden Globes, while the MTV Movie Awards shortlisted her performance to 'Live and Let Die' in its Best Musical Sequence category.

Here at Aurora, we can't promise to provide the sort of manic energy Lawrence displays in this fantastic movie, but we can guarantee the highest levels of professionalism and unbeatable end results for your workplace.
